KPIs That Drive the Right Behaviors: A deeper understanding of how to use KPIs - from goals to action
KPIs are among the most important tools we have for monitoring and steering performance. At the same time, they are also among the tools I have seen most frequently misused - or simply not used to their full potential.
A KPI can be your best friend, helping create focus, alignment and action. But it can also work against you by driving unintended behaviors, local optimization or activities that look good in reporting but not supporting the overall objective.
By understanding how a KPI is built, how it connects to the bigger goals, what behaviors it drives, and how different ways of visualizing it can influence understanding and action, you can start looking at KPIs in a different way: not just as measures of performance, but as tools for shaping decisions and actions.
Key Takeaways
How to build KPIs that turn overall goals into clear direction and action.
Five questions to help identify the behaviors your KPIs drive - both intended and unintended.
How to visualize KPIs in ways that create insight, engagement, and action.
Speaker Bio
Ulrika Linné is an engineer with more than 20 years of experience in engineering and project management, leading complex projects in demanding, time-critical environments.
Her experience has shaped an interest in how KPIs influence behavior, priorities, and decision-making. In this seminar, she brings a practical perspective on how KPIs can create alignment and action — or, when poorly designed, drive unintended behaviors and become little more than a “tick-the-box” exercise.
